The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially confirmed the schedule for the upcoming 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season. Season Structure and Participating Teams
The 2026/27 season will primarily feature matches played on weekends, a continuation of the format from the previous season. Midweek fixtures will be reserved exclusively for outstanding matches, a strategy intended to enhance fixture stability and mitigate scheduling congestion throughout the season. This arrangement helps to maintain a consistent rhythm for the league, benefiting players, clubs, and supporters alike.
The league will comprise eighteen clubs, including fifteen returning sides from the previous season and three newly promoted teams from the Division One League. These newcomers are Debibi United, champions of Zone One; FC AshantiGold 04, winners of Zone Two; and Port City FC, champions of Zone Three. These clubs will be looking to establish their presence in Ghana’s top tier after earning their promotion.
Conversely, Nations FC and Eleven Wonders were relegated after failing to maintain their top-flight status. An additional promotion slot became available due to Hohoe United‘s withdrawal from the league, paving the way for the third promoted team.
Defending Champions and League Ambitions
Medeama SC, the reigning champions, will embark on their quest to defend the league title they secured in the 2025/26 season. Their previous championship run included a notable 16-match unbeaten streak, with Augustine Okrah finishing as the league’s top scorer with 17 goals. This marks the second league title in the club’s history, and they will be aiming to add another trophy to their cabinet against the country’s leading clubs.
