This write-up titled 5 ways to fail your WASSCE, NOV-DEC or BECE looks strange from the onset but after reading this as a student, you will be rejuvenated to do the right things to avoid failure.

Many students who should be making grade A in their examination fail to even make the basic pass mark and fail the examination. This article seeks to outline five ways you can fail your examination so that you avoid the mistake. The truth is, it is not fun failing an examination and re-siting it again, hence watch the ways students have failed their WASSCE, NOV-DEC and BECE then put yourself in a better position to avoid failure.

One of the ways to fail your examination is to spend precious time on movies and your phone instead of your books. Some parents are kind enough to buy mobile phones for their wards. Some students are also able to buy their own mobile phones. Well, the source of the money used for the mobile phone is not part of our discussion here. If you have a phone, learn to put it away and rather concentrate on your studies or use it to google about the topics you are studying or use it to record your notes and lay them out instead of listening to music and watching movies. If you love moves, cut down the watching of movies and use that time to study or read your notes. If you fail to do this, you will be putting yourself in a better position to fail.

5 ways to fail your WASSCE, NOV-DEC or BECE and how to pass

#1. Learning the same topic all the time

Students who prepare towards failing their examinations are good at learning the topic over and over again. They also specialize in passing examinations in particular subjects and ignore other subjects. Students forget that the examination will cover more than one topic and not necessarily the topic you are specializing in. In the same vein, the examination you are going to write will cover 8 to 9 subjects. It will be dangerous to concentrate on passing a particular subject when your total performance will be determined using the 9 subjects you are writing. If you want to fail your exam, you can concentrate on a few topics and subjects, but know that success in the examination will be sacrificed if you do that.

#2. Absenting yourself from school

Students who fail their examinations are often absent from school for very poor reasons. They do not attend classes and even if they do, they are not regular. This will create a knowledge gap in your mind since you will not be able to understand all the lessons for the specific topics and subjects you miss. When you start preparing for the final examination, it will be difficult for you to prepare and make the right grades. Failure will be staring at you. If you do not want to fail your examination, stop dodging lessons, be present and regular and participate in learning activities and success will smile at you.

#3. Hate a subject and fail

How can you fall in love with a subject you hate, or let us put it in another way. How can you learn and pass a subject you dislike. If you think a subject is giving you challenges, find better ways to deal with it. Talk to a teacher about it. Explain your challenges to him or her. Speak to your school counsellor and to your parents about your challenges. This is the best thing to do. If you go around priding yourself with sentences like “I hate Mathematics” I don’t like the science teacher” and statements such as these. I can promise you that, you will have tough challenges learning such a subject and in the end, your pass or success will not be the best. Students who dislike a certain subject or teacher often do not do well in such subjects.

#4. Time management and timetable

The effective use of time and the creating of a timetable for your study is a hallmark of serious students. If you want to fail your examination, do not create a well-structured timetable. You can also learn any subject when you feel like it without any proper timetable to guide you. Your chances of not covering all subjects and topics are very high in such a situation, and you may enter the examination hall less prepared.

#5. Do not revise with past questions

Every examination has past questions and solutions. These materials are excellent, not for testing your understanding alone, but also help you to know the kind of questions that examiners will ask and how you are expected to answer them. If you learn without trying to solve some of these questions, you will be doing yourself a disservice. Students are advised to make very good use of past questions unless they want to fail.
