Real Madrid to launch €150m bid for Michael Olise if Florentino Pérez re-electedReal Madrid to launch €150m bid for Michael Olise if Florentino Pérez re-elected

Real Madrid’s Presidential Election and Transfer Plans

Real Madrid is currently undergoing a presidential election, with the outcome potentially influencing the club’s transfer strategy for the upcoming summer. Incumbent president Florentino Pérez is seeking re-election, and if successful, reports suggest the club could launch a substantial €150 million bid for a prominent attacking player.

The election is scheduled for this weekend, and Pérez is widely anticipated to secure another term, overcoming challenger Enrique Riquelme. Riquelme’s campaign included a promise to sign Erling Haaland, a move that has reportedly led to a threat of legal action from Manchester City, Haaland’s current club.

Both candidates have made significant pledges regarding player acquisitions. Pérez, speaking to Spanish media, outlined plans to make a substantial bid for a “gálactico-level player” in the coming week. While Pérez denied that this player was Michael Olise, it is understood that the Bayern Munich winger is a primary target for Real Madrid this summer if Pérez retains the presidency.

Pérez has also indicated that his re-election would finalize pre-arranged deals for manager José Mourinho, Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries, and Ibrahima Konaté, whose contract with Liverpool is not expected to be renewed. Real Madrid has already secured agreements to sign Konaté on a free transfer and Dumfries from Inter.

The €150 Million Bid and Player Speculation

Pérez has publicly committed to making a club-record offer of approximately €150 million for an unnamed “great player” if he wins re-election. He clarified that this target is not Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane, Michael Olise, or Manchester City’s Jeremy Doku. He also ruled out signing Erling Haaland, a player promised by his election rival. Pérez described the target player as a midfielder who can advance forward and is not from the Premier League.

Despite Pérez’s public statements, sources indicate that Michael Olise remains a key figure in Real Madrid’s transfer considerations. Olise, a former Crystal Palace winger, has been a standout performer for Bayern Munich since his move to Germany in 2024. He has contributed to Bayern’s two Bundesliga titles and is expected to be a crucial player for France in the upcoming World Cup.

Bayern Munich is reportedly keen to retain Olise, whose contract extends until 2029, and is expected to resist any attempts by Real Madrid to sign him. Uli Hoeness, Bayern’s honorary president, has stated that Olise is “unsellable.” Mourinho, whose return as Real Madrid’s manager is contingent on Pérez’s re-election, was observed watching Olise during Bayern’s victory over VfB Stuttgart in the German Cup final last month, signaling potential interest.

Real Madrid is aiming for a significant summer transfer window, especially after concluding the past two seasons without securing a major trophy. The club finished eight points behind La Liga champions Barcelona in the 2025-26 season, marking their second consecutive season without major silverware.

The Presidential Race and Club Dynamics

The presidency of Real Madrid is determined by its members, who pay an annual fee of approximately £130. Nearly 100,000 members are eligible to cast their votes in the election this Sunday. Pérez, 79, has a long history with the club’s presidency, first elected in 2000, where he initiated the ‘Galacticos’ policy, bringing in high-profile players like Luis Figo, David Beckham, and Zinedine Zidane.

After a period of disappointing results, Pérez resigned in 2006 but successfully returned to the presidency unopposed in 2009. He has since been re-elected four more times during his 17-year second tenure. This election marks the first time in 20 years that Pérez faces a challenger for the role.

Pérez’s campaign has emphasized generating excitement among fans through significant transfer activity. He announced on a Spanish TV show that he plans to make an offer to a major Champions League club for a “great player” on Tuesday or around that time, describing it as potentially the largest transfer fee Real Madrid has ever paid.

While there is also reported interest from Real Madrid in Paris Saint-Germain midfielder João Neves, Pérez is expected to prioritize a move for Olise if he secures re-election. The outcome of the election this weekend will therefore be a crucial factor in Real Madrid’s transfer dealings for the upcoming season.
