West Ham has reached an agreement with Al Hilal for the transfer of Crysencio Summerville, a Netherlands international. The deal is understood to be valued at a total package of £60m, comprising £55m guaranteed and an additional £5m in potential bonuses.
Reports indicate that Roma had also been pursuing Summerville, with a proposal of £39m (€46m) from the Serie A club being rejected by West Ham earlier. Al Hilal’s offer, which was significantly higher than Roma’s initial bid, was swiftly accepted by the Hammers.
Following the acceptance of Al Hilal’s bid, Roma does not plan to increase their offer for Summerville. The Italian club is reportedly exploring alternative targets, including Norway‘s World Cup stars Antonio Nusa and Andreas Schjelderup.
Summerville’s Impact and Previous Interest
Summerville, who is 24 years old, played 34 times for West Ham during the 2025/26 season, scoring seven goals and providing five assists. He also featured in all four matches for the Netherlands at the 2026 World Cup, where he scored two goals and assisted two others.
Should the transfer to Al Hilal be completed, Summerville would become the third-highest sale in West Ham’s history, following Declan Rice and Mateus Fernandes. The Hammers, who were relegated to the Championship, are expected to have raised more than £150m from the sales of Summerville and Fernandes this summer.
Manchester United was among the Premier League clubs that had shown interest in Summerville. However, discussions did not progress beyond initial exploratory talks. Any potential move for the winger by Manchester United was contingent on the sale of Marcus Rashford during the summer transfer window.
West Ham’s Summer Transfers
West Ham has been active in the transfer market this summer. In terms of arrivals, Keiber Lamadrid joined from Deportivo La Guaira for an undisclosed fee.
Regarding departures, Krisztian Hegyi moved to Sparta Prague for an undisclosed fee. Mateus Fernandes transferred to Tottenham in a deal worth £85m, and Callum Wilson moved to Brentford on a free transfer.
Summerville has three years remaining on his contract with West Ham. The club has been open to selling the player since their relegation to the Championship, provided they received a suitable offer.
Marcus Rashford’s future at Manchester United remains uncertain due to a reported breakdown in his relationship with the club. This led to him joining Aston Villa on loan for six months from January 2025, and subsequently Barcelona for the entirety of last season. Despite an uneasy truce, Rashford is expected to begin the season at Old Trafford.
With Rashford having two years left on his £17.5m-a-year contract, Manchester United’s preference is to offload him through a sale or a loan. The challenge lies in finding a club that can afford the 28-year-old forward.
Manchester United has recently signed Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans for a combined initial fee of £82m. The club is still looking to add a third midfielder, with Michael Carrick reportedly admiring Roma‘s Manu Koné, Bournemouth‘s Alex Scott, and Real Madrid‘s Eduardo Camavinga. However, the asking price for each of these players, ranging from £60m-£80m, makes a move for any of them seem unlikely.
