Pastor Jerry Eze has been cleared of all allegations of money laundering following a six-month investigation by Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The investigation, which began due to concerns over significant foreign currency inflows into accounts linked to him, found no evidence of financial misconduct.
The EFCC chairman, Ola Olukoyede, confirmed the findings, stating, “The Commission has concluded its investigation into the allegations involving Pastor Jerry Eze. After an extensive review, we found no proof to substantiate the claims of money laundering or financial impropriety.” This announcement comes at a pivotal time as Eze’s charitable foundation, the Jerry Eze Foundation, recently launched a major initiative aimed at empowering small businesses.
In a remarkable effort to support entrepreneurship in Nigeria, the foundation disbursed over N1 billion in grants to 240 entrepreneurs. Each beneficiary received $3,000 in funding support. The selection process was highly competitive, with more than 16,000 applications submitted. Out of these, 9,668 applicants met the eligibility requirements for the grants.
Eze reflected on the emotional toll of the investigation during this challenging period. He remarked, “I remember that the EFCC chairman was talking about the investigation. He’s saying it, and he’s happy. But he didn’t know the kind of…” This statement highlights the personal struggles he faced while navigating through the scrutiny.
Dr. Oby Ezekwesili, an advocate for economic empowerment in Africa, expressed her thoughts on the foundation’s initiative: “What our continent needs is scale, not just growth for growth’s sake, but deliberate, purposeful expansion that matches the size of the problems we are called to solve.” Her words resonate with many who hope to see significant change in Nigeria’s economy through such efforts.
The EFCC has stated that routine monitoring of Pastor Eze’s financial activities will continue as part of their commitment to uphold transparency and accountability. As Pastor Eze moves forward from this chapter, he remains dedicated to uplifting others through his foundation.
This development marks a significant moment not only for Pastor Eze but also for many aspiring entrepreneurs who stand to benefit from his foundation’s initiatives aimed at fostering economic empowerment across Nigeria.
