Winger joins Villa Park project
Aston Villa have confirmed the loan signing of winger Alejandro Garnacho from Chelsea. The deal is set to run until the end of the 2026-27 season and includes a conditional obligation for the transfer to become permanent. This clause is considered easily achievable, according to reports.
The terms of the obligation to buy have not been publicly disclosed by either club. However, it is anticipated that the conditions, such as the number of appearances Garnacho makes next season, will be met. Chelsea believes these terms are readily reachable, which would allow them to achieve their original valuation of the player.
Villa head coach Unai Emery expressed his satisfaction with the acquisition, stating he is “delighted” with Garnacho’s arrival. Emery highlighted the player’s talent and youth, noting that Garnacho has shown a desire to contribute to the club’s project. He added that the club is “really happy” with the signing.
This move marks Garnacho’s departure from Stamford Bridge less than 12 months after he joined Chelsea from Manchester United in a £40m deal. His impact at Chelsea was limited, with one Premier League goal recorded during his tenure. The arrival of Morgan Rogers and Sporting winger Geovany Quenda at Chelsea increased the need to reduce the squad size.

The transfer of Garnacho follows a significant deal between the two clubs, where Morgan Rogers moved from Aston Villa to Chelsea for a British-record transfer fee of £117m. Garnacho’s potential and future at Villa
Garnacho, an Argentina international with eight caps, arrives at Aston Villa with a reputation for promise. Unai Emery has shown faith in securing the winger, who will wear the No 17 shirt at Villa, the same number he wore for Manchester United and Argentina.
His previous statistics include one goal and four assists in 24 Premier League games for Chelsea last season, and eight goals in 43 appearances across all competitions. At Manchester United, he registered eight assists and 16 goals in 93 games. These figures suggest that Garnacho will need to elevate his performance to meet the standards expected by Emery.
The player himself expressed hope that Villa can help him regain confidence after a challenging season at Stamford Bridge. In an interview, Garnacho stated he was looking for a club where he could gain confidence and return to the form he showed earlier in his career at Manchester United. He noted that discussions with Emery provided him with that confidence.
Garnacho also highlighted the importance of being part of a club competing in the Champions League, having observed Villa in the Europa League last season. Should the move become permanent, and with Garnacho already agreeing to a four-year contract, he would achieve a level of success that some other loanees at Villa, such as Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho, did not fully realize during their temporary spells.
Manchester United is due 10% of any eventual transfer fee if Garnacho’s move to Villa becomes permanent, stemming from a sell-on clause in their original deal with Chelsea. This clause could see Manchester United receive around £260k.
The deal for Garnacho was carefully structured to navigate financial regulations. Chelsea and Aston Villa were recently fined by UEFA for breaching financial sustainability regulations, necessitating a cautious approach to transfers.
