The Commonwealth Games in Glasgow saw a significant day of swimming events, with Australia continuing its strong performance in the pool. Among the notable results, Meg Harris claimed the 100m freestyle title, surpassing defending champion Mollie O’Callaghan.
Harris‘s victory was part of a broader Australian success, which included multiple gold medals. Jenna Forrester secured her second gold, winning the 400m individual medley after previously taking the 200m backstroke crown. Alex Perkins also celebrated a significant win, earning the 100m butterfly title, her second triumph in three days.
Australian dominance in the pool
The Australian swimming team demonstrated considerable strength throughout the competitions. Sam Williamson, already a champion in the 100m, added another gold in the 50m breaststroke dash with a late surge. Para swimmer Beau Matthews also contributed to the gold medal tally, winning the 100m breaststroke SB9 final, while Sam Short secured gold in the 800m freestyle final.
Mollie O’Callaghan, despite battling stress fractures and bone bruising in her back, secured a silver medal in the 100m freestyle. She had previously won the 200m crown. Shayna Jack, in her final competition, earned the bronze medal in the same event, completing an all-Australian podium.

Harris finished the 100m freestyle in 52.90 seconds, ahead of O’Callaghan‘s 53.25 and Jack‘s 53.38. Forrester‘s 400m individual medley win saw her clock 4 minutes 31.19 seconds, maintaining a lead over Amalie Smith of England, who finished in 4:33.70. Another Australian, Ella Ramsay, secured the bronze in 4:37.12.
Perkins‘s impressive run continued with her fourth gold medal in as many nights, winning the 50m fly in 56.38 seconds, almost a second ahead of Scotland’s Keanna MacInnes. Williamson‘s victory in the one-lap breaststroke was achieved in 26.50, with Michael Houlie of South Africa finishing 0.27 seconds behind and Adam Ramsay-Peaty of England 0.44 seconds behind.
Matthews recorded a time of 1:09.41 in his gold-winning performance, surpassing Tim Hodge, who had to settle for bronze behind New Zealander Joshua Willmer. Kyle Chalmers also advanced to the 100m freestyle final, qualifying fastest as he aims for his tenth gold medal.
