Chelsea’s pursuit of experienced players
Chelsea have reportedly engaged in positive discussions regarding a potential move for Brighton striker Danny Welbeck. This interest is part of a broader strategy to incorporate more established players into the squad, a shift in transfer policy under manager Xabi Alonso. Welbeck, who is 35 years old, has demonstrated consistent performance, scoring 13 goals in 37 Premier League matches last season.
The club’s pursuit of Welbeck is seen as a strategic move to add experience to a forward line that currently features several younger players. Welbeck’s ability to hold up the ball, involve teammates, and his leadership qualities are noted as valuable assets. Interest in Jordan Henderson
In addition to Welbeck, Chelsea are also reportedly interested in signing Brentford midfielder Jordan Henderson. The 36-year-old England international is currently recovering from an arm injury sustained during the 2026 World Cup. Henderson has one year left on his contract with Brentford, and reports suggest the club might allow him to leave on a free transfer, though this is not yet certain, particularly if multiple clubs express interest.
Henderson’s experience and leadership qualities are believed to be key factors in Chelsea’s interest. He made 34 appearances for Brentford last season and was part of England’s World Cup squad.
