New midfield additions for Coventry City and Hull City
Coventry City and Hull City, both newly promoted teams, have recently acquired three midfielders from Scandinavian clubs. These new signings include Caleb Yirenkyi, Elliot Stroud, and Jens Hjerto-Dahl, all valued at £5.0m in FPL. Yirenkyi joins Coventry, while Stroud and Hjerto-Dahl move to Hull.
Yirenkyi, a Ghana midfielder, has completed a club-record transfer to Coventry. The Sky Blues are believed to have paid Nordsjaelland an initial fee of 27m euros (£23.1m), with additional add-ons of 3m euros (£2.5m). He has signed a long-term contract with the club.
Yirenkyi is a product of the Right to Dream Academy in Ghana, similar to players like Mohammed Kudus, Simon Adingra, and Kamaldeen Sulemana, who also moved to FC Nordsjaelland. He was recognised as the Danish Superliga’s Young Player of the Year for the 2025/26 season. Hjerto-Dahl and Stroud join Hull City
Jens Hjerto-Dahl joins Hull City from Tromsø, the club he has been with since the age of six. The Norway Under-21 international has made 104 club appearances, including participation in Europa League and Conference League competitions. Initially a defensive midfielder, he has shown more attacking prowess recently, scoring a hat-trick of headers on the opening day of the 2026 Eliteserien season. Hjerto-Dahl describes himself as a tall midfielder who enjoys moving forward, dribbling, and passing, and is strong in duels.
Hjerto-Dahl made his debut for Hull as the most advanced central midfielder in a friendly loss in Frankfurt. His defensive contribution rate is 8.69 DefCon per 90 minutes.
Elliot Stroud arrives at Hull from Swedish side Mjallby AIF. During Mjallby’s title-winning 2025 campaign, he primarily played as a left-sided wing-back, contributing 10 goals and five assists in 27 starts. Notably, three of his goals were from penalties. His last significant action for Mjallby was a spot-kick in a UEFA Champions League qualifier. Stroud also featured in all four of Sweden’s 2026 World Cup matches.
Stroud’s career penalty record stands at 6/7. However, Oli McBurnie, a striker for Hull, took and scored three spot-kicks in the 2025/26 season, suggesting the penalty responsibility might remain with McBurnie. Hull City frequently used a 4-2-3-1 formation last season and in pre-season, which could see Stroud in a left-wing position.
