Bournemouth forward Eli Junior Kroupi has undergone surgery for a foot injury and is anticipated to be sidelined for approximately three to four months. The club confirmed this development following earlier reports.
Kroupi sustained the injury during Bournemouth’s pre-season trip to Austria. He subsequently returned to England to receive treatment for the issue. The surgery took place on Wednesday, and his return to play is projected for around October or November.
Impact on Bournemouth and Transfer Interest
This injury represents a setback for Bournemouth, especially considering Kroupi’s performance in his debut Premier League season. Last term, he recorded a club-best 13 goals, which included five goals in the final eight matches of the campaign. His contributions helped Bournemouth achieve a sixth-place finish, securing qualification for the Europa League under former head coach Andoni Iraola.
Kroupi’s strong form had attracted interest from other clubs, with Arsenal and Barcelona reportedly among those showing interest in a potential move. However, Bournemouth has maintained a position of not being open to entertaining offers for the French player.
The club had already strengthened its forward line this summer by acquiring Alvaro Rodriguez, a 22-year-old striker from Elche, in a deal worth £21 million.
Kroupi joined Bournemouth from Lorient in January 2025. Lorient is also part of the Black Knight Football multiclub group. He remained with Lorient until the end of that season. Kroupi has represented the French national team at the under-21 level and was part of the squad that reached the final of the Under-19 European Championship in 2024.

Tottenham’s Shift in Transfer Strategy
The injury to Kroupi has also influenced Tottenham’s transfer plans. Kroupi had been identified as Tottenham’s primary striker target. Following his injury, Spurs are now reportedly focusing on signing a Barcelona frontman instead.
Tottenham had been active early in the summer transfer window, completing significant transfers for Jan Paul van Hecke, Mateus Fernandes, and Sandro Tonali. Head coach Roberto De Zerbi is seeking additional attacking reinforcements, with both a winger and a new striker on the agenda.
While Manchester City’s Savinho is considered a top target for the wing positions, Kroupi’s injury has altered the plans for the striker role. The French forward fractured his fifth metatarsal, necessitating surgery.
According to reports from sources including David Ornstein and Fabrizio Romano, Kroupi is expected to be out for three to four months during his recovery period. This development has impacted Tottenham’s ambition to bring Kroupi to north London this summer.
Reports suggest that Tottenham has quickly identified potential replacements. Among these, Ferran Torres, a striker for Barcelona and Spain, has emerged as a player of interest for Spurs. Torres scored the winning goal for Spain in the 2026 World Cup final and contributed to Barcelona’s LaLiga victory last season.
The 26-year-old former Manchester City player has one year remaining on his contract in Catalonia. Paris Saint-Germain has also been attempting to secure Torres. Sources indicate that Spurs have held discussions with intermediaries regarding Torres’s situation and are monitoring developments closely. While there is nothing finalized between Torres and PSG, Barcelona’s intention is to retain the player despite his current contract status. There is also nothing close regarding Torres signing a new contract with Barcelona.
Under new head coach Marco Rose, Bournemouth is scheduled to commence their new season on Sunday, August 23, with an away fixture against Manchester City.
