Tournament Details and Community Impact
The Meijer LPGA Classic is underway at Blythefield Country Club in Belmont, near Grand Rapids, marking its 12th edition. This event is recognised as a significant community gathering on the LPGA schedule. Daily grounds tickets are available for $10, with free entry for children under 17.
A notable feature is the food pavilion, situated near the fourth fairway, which offers an all-you-can-eat experience. This culinary offering is curated by Meijer chefs and local restaurants. Additionally, a community 5k event is organised to complement the festivities.
The tournament, which has been held at Blythefield since its inception in 2014, features a purse of $3.25 million. Funds generated from the event support the Meijer Simply Give program, which aids local food pantries in stocking their shelves.
Key Players and Course Conditions
The field for this year’s Meijer LPGA Classic includes 144 players. Among them are three of the top-10 players in the world rankings: Jeeno Thitikul (World No. 2), Hannah Green (No. 6), and Lottie Woad (No. 7). Miyu Yamashita (No. 8) and Minjee Lee (No. 9) are also participating. Nelly Korda, the World No. 1, is not competing this week.
Thitikul, a two-time winner this season, is making her third appearance at the event. She has previously achieved top-10 finishes, including a T-5. She expressed her fondness for the course, stating, “I love this course.” The tournament is strategically placed in her schedule ahead of the KPMG Women’s PGA in Minnesota.
Defending champion Carlota Ciganda returns to Blythefield, a course she finds particularly comfortable. She noted that the course’s design, including its five par 5s and doglegs, suits long hitters and requires accuracy. Past champions in the field include Lilia Vu (2024), Leona Maguire (2023), Jennifer Kupcho (2022), Brooke Henderson (2019, 2017), and Lexi Thompson (2015).
Henderson holds the 72-hole scoring record of 263 at Blythefield, a record she set in 2017 and which was matched by Nelly Korda in 2021. Henderson also finds the course reminiscent of those she played growing up in Canada. She highlighted the event’s atmosphere, describing it as “so kid and family-friendly.”
Conditions for the week are anticipated to be windy and wet, which could influence scoring. The tournament record for winning score is 25 under, set by Korda in 2021. The winning margin in the previous 11 editions of the Meijer LPGA Classic has been two strokes or fewer, with four playoffs.
Thompson prioritised playing last year’s Meijer, where she tied for fourth place. Her winning score in of her LPGA victories was 14 under or better, and she finished 18 under when she won the Meijer in 2015.

Sponsor Exemptions and Emerging Talent
Three sponsor invitations have been extended for this week’s tournament. Among the recipients is Kiara Romero, the No. 1 amateur in the world. Fresh from a Curtis Cup victory, Romero, an Oregon senior, has the opportunity to secure her LPGA card this week with a top-10 finish. She has accumulated 18 of the 20 points required through the LPGA’s Elite Amateur Pathway (LEAP) program.
A top 40 finish or better at the Meijer would earn her one point. Romero, at 20 years old, views this as a significant motivator. The other two invitations were given to recent Michigan State graduates Taylor Kehoe and Katie Lu. Kehoe, from Canada, is making her LPGA debut this week, having led her team with a 72.24 scoring average. Lu, a 2025 graduate, currently competes on the Annika Women’s All Pro Tour, where she achieved her first professional win in April.
The Epson Tour, the developmental circuit for the LPGA, is also continuing its Michigan swing this week with the Great Lakes Championship at Boyne.

The Meijer LPGA Classic is scheduled to run from Thursday through Sunday.
