Wimbledon Junior Final Performance

Cruz Hewitt, at 17 years old, recently competed in the Wimbledon boys’ singles final, where he was defeated by American qualifier Jordan Lee. The final score was 4-6, 6-4, 7-5. This match marked a significant moment for Hewitt, who had an impressive run leading up to the final, not dropping a set until his last two matches on court one. His performance included defeating four consecutive seeded players, including the No.2 seed, to reach the final.

During the two-hour and three-minute final, Hewitt displayed composure despite the heartbreak of the loss. He held a lead of 4-2 in the deciding third set before Lee mounted a comeback. Hewitt reflected on his week, stating he was happy to reach the final and found it special to play on court one with a strong atmosphere. He acknowledged his ability to play well on grass courts and noted significant personal maturation on the court, while also identifying areas for further development.

Hewitt, the son of former world No.1 Lleyton Hewitt, played with his father present in the coach’s box and his mother, Bec Hewitt, cheering from the stands. This final was one of the longest in the history of the Wimbledon boys’ finals. Cruz Hewitt is the first Australian to reach the junior boys’ final since Alex de Minaur in 2016, with Luke Saville being the last Australian winner in 2011.

Future Aspirations and Goals

Following his strong showing at Wimbledon, Cruz Hewitt has outlined his ambitions for his senior tennis career. He has indicated that he likely will not participate in any more junior-level tournaments, shifting his focus towards competing in the men’s main draw of the Australian Open and Wimbledon. He expressed that playing in the Australian Open would be a significant goal and a dream, believing he can demonstrate his skill level on that stage.

Hewitt, currently ranked world No.606 on the men’s tour, understands that he would need to improve his ranking to secure a spot. He mentioned the possibility of being granted a wildcard entry for the tournament in Melbourne next year, stating that with hard work, it is achievable. He also expressed his eagerness to return to Wimbledon in the future to compete in the men’s category.

At the beginning of the week, Hewitt had shared his hope of being within the top 300 by the end of the year. He plans to consult with his team to determine his tournament schedule moving forward, with the aim of performing well enough in the coming months to potentially earn an Australian Open main draw wildcard in January.

The Final Match Details

The match against Jordan Lee saw Hewitt face a determined opponent. Lee, who is 16 years old and was the youngest player in the 2026 boys’ draw, fought back after Hewitt took an early lead in the deciding set. The American’s performance included raising his level significantly, particularly after Hewitt showed some nerves while attempting to serve out the first set.

There were moments of drama, including a double bounce review and Hewitt grabbing and then losing a break back in the second set. Lee also had consecutive set points against Hewitt’s serve. In the final set, a lucky net cord went Lee’s way, and Hewitt eventually dumped a backhand into the net, leading to the set being tied at four-all. The tension escalated, with Lee ultimately securing the title with a brilliant backhand winner after Hewitt faced a double fault and sought advice from his father.
