IFAB previously rejected calls in 2021 to extend the halftime break to 25 minutes due to potential negative impacts on player welfare and safety from prolonged inactivity.
Performers and Collaborations
In addition to the headliners, other artists are scheduled to perform. The PS22 Chorus, a viral elementary school choir from New York City, will join Coldplay on stage. Nigerian singer-songwriter Burna Boy will perform with Shakira. Gustavo Dudamel, music director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and iconic characters from Sesame Street and The Muppets are also set to feature. The duo also performed “Dai Dai” at the FIFA World Cup opening match in Mexico City. Shakira emphasized that the halftime show provides an opportunity to highlight the need for greater access to education for children, connecting her music career with her philanthropic efforts through the Barefoot Foundation, which she founded in 1997 to provide quality education in impoverished communities in Colombia.

The World Cup Final will kick off at 3 p.m. ET. The halftime show is expected to begin between 3:45 p.m. and 4 p.m. ET. The match will be broadcast by Fox in English and Telemundo in Spanish. Fox will begin its coverage with a four-hour pregame show starting at 11 a.m. ET, while Telemundo and Peacock will start their coverage at 9 a.m. ET with a two-hour entertainment special.
The closing ceremony will precede the final, starting 90 minutes ahead of kickoff. Post Malone was announced as the headliner for the closing ceremony on July 15. Other performers previously revealed for the festivities include Tom Cruise, Laura Pausini, Nicole Scherzinger, Robbie Williams, and YouTuber IShowSpeed.
