Real Madrid make improved contract offer to Vinicius Junior

Real Madrid have presented an enhanced contract offer to Vinicius Junior as they aim to secure the Brazil winger’s long-term future at the Bernabeu. The player, who has entered the final 12 months of his current deal, has reportedly garnered interest from Arsenal.

Initial discussions regarding a new contract had reached an impasse, but Real Madrid has now made a new proposal to Vinicius. The player is understood to be receptive to these fresh terms.

Contract Negotiations and Club Hopes

Real Madrid is currently awaiting Vinicius Junior’s decision on the improved contract. Senior management, including returning head coach Jose Mourinho, are optimistic that he will agree to renew his deal. The club anticipates a response from Vinicius in the coming hours.

Should Vinicius decline the offer, Arsenal is prepared to intensify their pursuit of the Brazilian winger. Vinicius had previously signed a contract extension with Real Madrid three years ago, which is set to run until 2027. Talks between the club and his representatives for a new deal have been ongoing for the past 18 months.

The player returned to the club on Monday for his initial pre-season training session and medical assessment, following his participation in the World Cup campaign with Brazil. Vinicius has made 375 appearances for Real Madrid across all competitions, scoring 128 goals.

It is believed that Vinicius seeks financial recognition as Los Blancos’ top star. However, Real Madrid is known for its strict adherence to maintaining its salary structure under president Florentino Perez. Despite this, Vinicius has publicly expressed his desire to remain at Real Madrid, describing it as “the club of my dreams” and stating his hope to stay “for many years.”

Arsenal’s Transfer Ambitions

Arsenal has identified Vinicius Junior as their primary target for the left-wing position, should his situation at Real Madrid change. Fresh talks between Real Madrid and Vinicius took place at the club’s training ground on Wednesday, with these discussions described as positive.

A strong relationship has reportedly developed between Vinicius and his new head coach, Jose Mourinho. This connection is understood to have played a significant role in the positive trajectory of the contract talks this summer. Mourinho is reportedly determined to have Vinicius as a central figure in his Real Madrid squad.

Mikel Arteta, Arsenal’s manager, expressed optimism regarding the club’s transfer window plans, stating his ambition for his team to “attack every possible title” this season. Arsenal is reportedly close to finalising a £75m deal for Bruno Guimaraes this week, but a potential move for Vinicius Junior has encountered a setback.

Arteta commented on the club’s excitement, saying, “We are going to attack every possible title as that’s the ambition we have.” He added, “We will go from strength to strength – whether it’s the players we have, to take them to a different level, or with the market that is still open to recruit as well. We’re optimistic about it.”

The work undertaken during the summer is aimed at understanding what is needed to win again and establish a dynasty at the club. Arsenal has agreed a £75m fee with Newcastle for their captain, Bruno Guimaraes, who has been granted permission to travel for a medical.

Guimaraes had previously informed Newcastle bosses that he wished to join Arsenal if a suitable offer was made. Arsenal’s initial bid was rejected, but the 28-year-old now appears set to join the Premier League champions. Guimaraes, who joined Newcastle in 2022 from Lyon for £40m, has made 195 appearances for Newcastle, scoring 31 goals. Newcastle had intended to keep Guimaraes, who has two years remaining on his contract, plus a club-held option for a third.

If the deal for Guimaraes proceeds as expected, Newcastle will have generated over £240m from player sales this summer. This includes Anthony Gordon’s move to Barcelona for £69.3m and Sandro Tonali’s transfer to Spurs for £100m. Additionally, manager Eddie Howe also departed during what has been a busy summer at St James’ Park.
