RB Leipzig transfer for Fisnik Asllani falls through
The anticipated transfer of striker Fisnik Asllani from Hoffenheim to RB Leipzig has reportedly collapsed due to medical concerns. The deal, which was expected to be worth an initial €25 million, with potential bonuses increasing it to €30 million, will no longer proceed. Asllani had travelled to RB Leipzig‘s training camp in Austria to undergo medical examinations after being released by Hoffenheim for this purpose.
During the medical checks, the Saxony club identified issues that led them to withdraw from the transfer. This development means Asllani will not be joining RB Leipzig and is expected to remain with Hoffenheim. The €25 million figure represents the value of a release clause in Asllani’s contract at Hoffenheim.
Details of the collapsed deal
According to reports, everything had been fully agreed upon between the clubs and the player. RB Leipzig had intended to activate the €25 million release clause in Asllani’s contract. He was reportedly set to sign a five-year contract with the Champions League participants, running until 2031.
The news comes shortly after Yan Diomandé departed RB Leipzig for Real Madrid, with Asllani having been considered a direct replacement. The situation is particularly concerning for the young attacker, who had a strong season, scoring 11 goals and providing eight assists in 35 games across all competitions in the previous season.
Hoffenheim confirmed the news in an official statement, indicating that discussions with RB Leipzig regarding a potential transfer for Asllani would not proceed due to the medical concerns raised by RB Leipzig. However, RB Leipzig did not provide further details regarding the specific medical issues.
Hoffenheim’s stance and other interested clubs
Despite the collapsed transfer, Hoffenheim‘s managing director for sport, Andreas Schicker, expressed a positive outlook from a sporting perspective. Schicker stated that the fact the transfer is not happening is “anything but bad news” for the club. He affirmed that Asllani is capable of performing “physically and sportingly at the very highest level.”
Asllani reportedly completed pre-season at his usual high standard and is expected to resume training with the Hoffenheim team in the coming week. The club anticipates that the striker will remain in Kraichgau for the summer and not join another club. However, the transfer window remains open until the beginning of September, leaving room for potential changes.
Other high-profile clubs have reportedly shown interest in Asllani in recent months. Borussia Dortmund is among the clubs said to have a strong interest in the 23-year-old, who celebrates his 24th birthday soon. Asllani joined Hoffenheim from Union Berlin in 2020. He experienced a breakthrough during a loan spell at then-second-division side SV Elversberg in the 2024/25 season. Following this, he established himself at Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga, scoring 11 goals in 35 appearances across all competitions in the 2025/26 season.
Before the deal collapsed, Barcelona had been monitoring Asllani as an alternative target for their search for a new centre-forward. The Kosovan international had attracted attention due to his potential and a relatively affordable release clause. Reports indicated that Hansi Flick received positive feedback on the player, and Asllani had expressed admiration for the Catalan club through social media activity.
