Before the change of ownership of Twitter to Elon Musk, there was only one type of verified account on Twitter. However, with the coming of Elon Musk, a new way of verification has been introduced.

This means there are now ways by which any Twitter user seeking to be verified can use.

The old form of verification of accounts on Twitter was based on the popularity of a user of Twitter. Users whose identity or trade or business has been verified by Twitter have a Blue Thick by their name. 

 

The new addition is a verification attained if a Twitter user pays a monthly verification fee of $8 which translates into $96 every year. Once you subscribe on Twitter Blue, you get verified.

Wondering how to tell the kind of verification a user has?

Whether the use has been verified based on his or her popularity or he or she paid for it can be easily detected.

To check the kind of verification…

  1. Go to the account with a Blue thick.
  2. Click on the Blue Thick attached to the name of the user.
  3. If the individual is a public figure who has been verified due to his or her popularity, you will see the following information popping up.  “Account Information”This account is verified because it’s notable in government, news, entertainment, or another designated category. Learn more

Tapping on an account’s verified badge will tell you if they are a verified public figure, or if they bought verification through Twitter Blue.

Now that Elon Musk says everyone is going to pay if they are to get verified, the possibility of public figures paying $8 per month even though they have been verified in the past is the new normal.
