Tottenham has reached a loan agreement to acquire Manchester City forward Omar Marmoush. The deal includes an obligation for Tottenham to make the transfer permanent next summer for a fee of £60m. This move follows the recent signing of Sávio from Manchester City earlier this week.
Marmoush, an Egypt international, is 27 years old. He joined Manchester City from Eintracht Frankfurt for £59m in January of the previous year. During his tenure at the Etihad Stadium, he often played a secondary role to Erling Haaland.
Marmoush’s Role and Performance at City
Marmoush made 62 appearances across all competitions for Manchester City, scoring 16 goals after his transfer from Frankfurt. In the 2025-26 season, he scored eight goals in 36 appearances. However, his involvement in the Premier League saw a notable decrease during this period.
He started only eight league games and accumulated approximately 700 minutes of play, which was less than his playing time after joining midway through the campaign prior. His league statistics included three goals and three assists, with his expected goals figure of 3.53 being close to his actual scoring output.
The forward found himself competing for playing time within a squad structured around Haaland, as Manchester City also bolstered their attacking options. Marmoush was a second-half substitute in City’s 3-0 Community Shield loss to Arsenal and was an unused substitute in their Premier League opening match, a 2-1 home victory against Bournemouth.
Tottenham’s Summer Spending and Squad Dynamics
Tottenham’s summer transfer expenditure has now exceeded £312m. The club has brought in several players, including Mateus Fernandes from West Ham, Sandro Tonali from Newcastle, and Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton. Additionally, defenders Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson, along with goalkeeper Martin Dubravka, have joined on free transfers.
The acquisition of Marmoush comes as Tottenham faces some challenges in its forward line. Dominic Solanke has experienced injury issues over the past 18 months, and teammate Richarlison is in the final year of his contract.
Marmoush primarily operates as a number nine but has demonstrated versatility across the front line. At Frankfurt, he was predominantly used centrally but also featured as a second striker and from the left wing. Manchester City employed him similarly, mainly as a central attacker while also deploying him from the flank and just behind another forward.
This adaptability could be beneficial for Tottenham manager Roberto de Zerbi. His tactical approach often involves forwards interchanging positions, dropping deeper to receive the ball, and then exploiting spaces created when opponents are drawn out. Marmoush is noted for his comfort in performing both these roles.
Sávio’s Arrival and Impact
The arrival of Marmoush follows Tottenham’s recent acquisition of Sávio from Manchester City. Sávio’s transfer was completed for an initial fee of £75m, with potential add-ons of up to an additional £10m. This fee represents a record sale for Manchester City, who had signed him from Troyes in 2024 for £30.8m.
Sávio, a Brazil winger, will now be known as Sávio and will wear that name on the back of his shirt. He prefers to play off the right wing, allowing him to cut inside onto his stronger left foot. He is eligible for Tottenham’s Carabao Cup tie at home against Charlton on Wednesday.
In his first season at Manchester City, Sávio recorded three goals and 13 assists across all competitions, with 10 of those assists coming in the Premier League. His productivity decreased in his last season with City, where he managed four goals and three assists in all competitions. Across 53 Premier League appearances, he scored twice.
De Zerbi expressed his enthusiasm for Sávio, stating that the player brings energy, imagination, and quality in wide positions, possessing the courage to attack defenders and the ability to change a game with his creativity. Sávio himself expressed happiness to join Tottenham, noting that discussions with the head coach convinced him to make the move.
Tottenham’s total summer spending now stands at £304.5m with the deal for Sávio, and the club is reportedly still active in the transfer market, monitoring players like Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo.
