Liverpool continues to pursue attacking reinforcements, with ongoing discussions for PSG wingers Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye. Both players are reportedly expected to depart the Parc des Princes before the transfer deadline, with reports indicating they have agreed personal terms with Liverpool.

Despite training normally, neither Barcola nor Mbaye were included in PSG’s squad for their Ligue 1 opener against Rennes, following their omission from the French Super Cup match against Lens. This decision by PSG manager Luis Enrique is seen as a sign that their transfers are still being considered.

Pursuit of Barcola and Mbaye

Liverpool has been actively trying to secure both Barcola and Mbaye in recent weeks. Barcola, a France international, is viewed as a potential successor to club icon Mohamed Salah, who moved to Trabzonspor earlier this summer. However, reaching an agreement with PSG has been challenging due to differing valuations of the players.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano expressed optimism regarding Barcola’s transfer, anticipating an acceleration in negotiations in the coming days. He noted that while a breakthrough was not expected over the past weekend, Liverpool has submitted verbal proposals and conversations are ongoing to finalize the deal structure.

Barcola’s progress includes scoring eight goals and providing eight assists in 21 appearances during a loan spell at Lyon last season. Liverpool had previously shown interest in Barcola during his time at Lyon before his move to PSG.

Other Transfer Targets and Squad Updates

Beyond the PSG duo, Liverpool is also engaged in talks for Brighton winger Yankuba Minteh. The club has reportedly had initial bids of £50million and £60m rejected for the Gambia international, who is reportedly valued closer to £70m. Minteh, like Barcola and Mbaye, is rumored to have agreed personal terms.

Minteh underwent leg surgery over the summer and may not be fit to play until November. Brighton is reportedly considering Yeremay Hernandez from Deportivo La Coruna as a potential replacement for Minteh.

In terms of midfield, while a new signing currently seems unlikely, the situation could change. Liverpool has secured Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch with new long-term contracts. Additionally, Trey Nyoni, a 19-year-old, is expected to have an opportunity to impress. Alexis Mac Allister, who has two years remaining on his current deal, is expected to stay this summer, though midfield could become a priority in the next 12 months if new contract talks do not progress.

Liverpool has also strengthened its defensive line with the £60m acquisition of Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes, a deal initially agreed in January. They also secured Ronald Araujo on a season-long loan from Barcelona, which includes an option for a £47m permanent transfer next summer.

Squad Reinforcements and Future Outlook

The focus for Liverpool in the transfer market remains primarily on strengthening their attack. The pursuit of Barcola is described as a priority, with optimism that an agreement between PSG and Liverpool will be reached this summer.

The club’s strategy involves securing players who can immediately contribute to the squad, especially after the departure of key figures. The ongoing negotiations for Barcola, Mbaye, and Minteh highlight Liverpool’s intent to bolster their offensive options before the transfer window closes.

The expectation is that discussions for Barcola will intensify in the coming days, with a resolution anticipated before the transfer deadline.
