Hull City’s Transfer Progress
Hull City owner Acun Ilicali has provided an update on the club’s transfer activities, indicating that several deals are nearing completion. The owner took to social media to inform supporters about the progress, just 17 days before the start of Hull’s Premier League campaign.
Ilicali shared an updated list on his official X account, featuring green ticks next to six flags. He stated that deals to sign some of the players represented by these flags are “fully agreed and in the paperwork process.” This update has generated considerable discussion among fans, who are attempting to identify the players hinted at by the flags.
Earlier in the transfer window, Ilicali had shared a similar list, using flags to represent players and percentages to indicate the stage of the signing process. The club has already secured four signings since their promotion via the Championship play-offs. These new additions include goalkeeper Jack Butland, defender Matt Targett, and midfielders Oscar Zambrano and Hidemasa Morita.
Head Coach Anticipates New Arrivals
Hull City head coach Sergej Jakirovic also expressed his anticipation for new players to join the squad. Jakirovic expects at least two new arrivals to be part of the team for their upcoming pre-season friendly against Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany.
The club plans to announce the signings of Konstantinos Tzolakis and Nobel Mendy early next week. Tzolakis was present at Saturday night’s 1-1 draw with Kasimpasa in Istanbul and returned to England with the squad on Sunday. Mendy is expected to link up with the team at Cottingham once the formalities of his transfer from Rayo Vallecano are finalised.
Jakirovic commented on the Greek international, stating, “In the next hours, he (Tzolakis) will be our player. Everything is agreed, so I’m expecting him next week in training.” Regarding Mendy, the head coach added, “I can say 99 per cent, and I hope he will join us this week.” These potential additions are seen as a boost to the squad, which has experienced some injuries and absences recently.
Preparation for Premier League Return
The team is preparing for its return to the Premier League, with their first match scheduled against Manchester United on August 22. The players are set to return to training on Wednesday after a short break, following their two-week trip.
Ilicali previously spoke about the club’s return to the top flight, describing it as a dream come true. He noted that being in the Premier League brings a different mood and involves dealing with players of higher quality and larger budgets. The owner expressed his excitement, stating he is counting down the days to see Manchester United on the pitch.
Jakirovic reflected positively on the recent trip, stating, “Over the twelve days, we did everything that we planned, and the guys were very, very professional. They put a lot of hard work into the pitch, and they gave everything.” He highlighted that the primary goal of the trip was fitness, with tactical principles to be addressed back in Hull. The head coach also mentioned that the players they aim to bring in are currently in training with their respective teams, which is a positive aspect for adaptation.
The squad will have Monday and Tuesday at home before returning to Cottingham on Wednesday to prepare for the game against Bundesliga opposition, flying to Frankfurt after training on Friday.
