Ofori-Atta Blamed for Ghana’s Economic Challenges

Hon. Ken Ofori has been blamed largely for the current ailing Ghanaian economy. Under his watch, the dollar which was arrested by the Ghana Police has broken jail and caused serious economic problems for the country. The cedi has depreciated so fast and continuously in its free-falling journey.

These coupled with high fuel prices and inflation not to mention the replying effect on the prices of food and transport have made life unbearable and harsh for the ordinary Ghanaian.

The ruling NPP has, however, called on the Majority Caucus in parliament not to take part in today’s vote of censure, a clear indication that the NPP-led government is not ready to fire the non-performing minister who has refused to resign just as the laid back unwilling President Akufo Addo’s posture to show him the exit even when the members of parliament of the ruling NPP have called for the immediate replacement of the Finance Minister.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has ordered the Majority Caucus in parliament to abstain from the vote of censure against Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta. If parliaments succeed today, the NPP-led government will have no choice but to respond to the will of the people expresses through parliament and get an acting Minister of Finance in place whiles a substantive minister is sought

While a cross-section of Ghanaians believe the firing of Ken Ofori-Atta will have little significance and produce the necessary results, many hold the view that should the Minister of Finance exit office, it will among other things boost investor confidence in their Ghanaian economy and help stabilize the ailing economy and the depreciating cedi.
