Stop frustrating young men with "CRAZY" marriage lists or marry your daughters

Stop frustrating young men with “CRAZY” marriage lists, or marry your daughters. Even in extreme situations where the lady is a virgin, it would still be wrong to list items in heaven and hell for young men to buy and provide in the name of marriage.

Some families in Ghana think and feel their daughters are overly human, hence once a young man steps up to ask their daughter’s hand in marriage, they decide to rip the young man off as though after the marriage the couples will not need money to build a home.

If marriage is a union, why ask for heaven through the issuing of provoking marriage lists. Are you selling off your daughters as slaves, or you are giving them out to be married?

It is very sad that in the current hard economic situation, some parents have decided to convert marriage rites into getting rich.

The bizarre marriage proposal list issued by gold-digging families need to be questioned.

If you are a lady and your parents give your-would-be-husband a list that aims at reaping him off, then you are likely to be the first problem of your yet to be performed marriage.

Come to think of it, your marriage does not need to be expensive, overly financial resources draining to make it work.

Applying common sense, parents, daughters and sons can make the right choices when it comes to paying the bride price.

If you are a daughter whose hand another person’s son is asking for, ask yourself if you are doing yourself and your marriage good or bad?

Mothers and fathers who provide marriage lists that would cost the young man a fortune must bow their heads down in shame. Whether you are rich or poor and whether the young man is rich or poor, it must not be the reason to give a marriage proposal list that will cost a fortune.

Stop frustrating young men with “CRAZY” marriage lists or marry your daughters. It is ethically wrong, no matter the reasons for the decision. Let us look at two marriage lists that are making everyone talk currently.

  1. Knocking fee – GHS500.00 + One (1) box of castle bridge.
  2. Bridal fee – GHS5,000 + Two (2) Boxes of castle bridge
  3. Father’s Cloth – GTP (20) Kente (20) plus GHS1000.00
  4. Mothers Cloth – GTP Half piece (30) plus GHS500.00
  5. Brother in law – GHS2000

  13. Eagle kids  -12
Look at the rest of the items from the attached list and make your own conclusions.

How on earth can this be just the begging request of a family to a man who is requesting your daughter’s hand in marriage.

Just look at the full least, and you will agree with me that, this is absolutely wrong and must not be encouraged. This is not Ghanaian and this is not culture. Times have changed but culture, although dynamic, should not be used to exploit men who want to marry from a family.

How can you be asking for a coffin and mortuary fee, for example? When did this become part of the Marriage proposal list?

Again, it is just unreasonable to ask for bags of cement, iron rods, and roofing sheets as part of the marriage proposal list.

Such a list should tell the young men what to expect from such a family after the marriage. How will such a marriage survive? If you are a gentleman from a very rich family or a young man who is stable financially, think twice before you pay such a price in the name of the bride price.

True love is not supposed to cost you a fortune. If you are offered such a list just for the marriage rights, pray to God and ask Him to lead you. Pray to God and ask God to give you a would-be wife material whose family will not rip you off before you become a husband.

Parents who are demanding the impossible from the young men who are interested in marrying your daughters, you need to re-examine the list of things you give to these young men. Ask yourselves if the lists you are issuing out are good enough and worth your daughters. Know that your daughters are not slaves you are selling out. They are going out to start a home. If you ask for all these things, how would the young couples start a family on a good footing?

Young men, keep working hard, learn to save, and look out for ladies who match your pocket and will love you for who you are and not because of your riches.

The second list below is more decent and reasonable compared to the one above. Society needs to speak against the bizarre marriage proposal lists like the one above if we are to streamline things when it comes to marriage ceremonies and lists.
