1. Be determined:
Apparently, there is no success without determination. Psychologists have corroborated that determination is the only thing that will help a student to achieve success in any examination. Conversely, you have to, first of all, encourage and tell yourself that you must pass WAEC examination in just one sitting. This will go a long way to help you pass WAEC without fear.
For many students, it is very difficult or even impossible to pass in just one sitting, but this Ideology it false. Everybody’s world-view is not the same. You are the only one that can decide whether you will pass WAEC examination in one sitting or not through your hard work. Do not let people discourage you.
Tell yourself that you can pass in just one sitting and it shall be so for you. After all, people that passed once are humans like you and I. After doing this, try to remain steadfast, persevered and strong at the same time because it won’t be very easy to do that. You must prepare yourself for a relentless working hard.
2. Start preparing as early as possible
There has been controversies as to when WAEC candidates should start preparing for WAEC examination. While some writers postulated that 6 months before the exam is the best, some said that 3 month before the exam is preferable. Some are even of the opinion that candidates should start preparing from their day-one in secondary school.
Well, I think all these writers are actually correct in their own way. However, for me, the best time to start reading for WAEC examination is now.
Conversely, if you are just reading this article few weeks to WAEC examination, you can still pass excellently if you start reading now. No time is too late. Just pick up your books and start covering as much topics as you can now.
Trust me, you can still pass with good grades, if you invite God and start reading relentless from today. There is actually no best time to start preparing for WAEC examination.
3. Get recommended WAEC materials and read them
The next step to make if you want to pass the impending 2021/2022 WAEC examination, is to get the recommended WAEC materials (Textbooks, Notebook, Past questions etc). These materials are prerequisite for passing all your subject. Just make sure you buy the correct editions of the textbook from online of offline bookshops. Trust me, they will help you a lot.
It is pertinent to note that using of past questions is a “must” to pass WAEC examination. Past questions don’t only open your eyes to understand the way WAEC questions are structured. They also give you the exact questions that will be asked in the real examination. What I mean is that, WAEC usually repeat all their questions. Thus, it is right to say that past questions and answers are very paramount for a good grade in WAEC examination.
Meanwhile, you must note that past “questions and answers” are not the only material you need for success in WAEC examination. Your notebooks, textbooks and key points are also very important.
4. Do not allow people’s opinion to stop you from reading
One common problem with candidates that want to pass WAEC examination is that, they allow people’s experience and words discourage them. It is worthwhile to know that this is one of the causes of massive exam failures and malpractices during examination conducted in the country.
Yes, it will be difficult, but you must learn to use that fear and discouraging words as strength. Let the fear make you work hard. Allow it to keep you steadfast toward achieving your dream grades in WAEC examination.
Apparently, there is no two ways to stop fear during examination. The only way is by preparing very well for the examination. This will give you courage and make you optimistic about your success in the examination.
5. Prepare a reading timetable and stick to it
Yes, the next step is to create a timetable. A timetable will help you cover up all you are supposed to read before you exam. It will give you the opportunity to maximize your time effectively, and to prepare apt for WAEC examination.
Most often than not, some students fail to do this, on the ground that they can’t strictly follow their timetable. However, it is important to know that, you must not follow it strictly. Just make sure you do your best to conform to it.
While creating your timetable, make sure you give more time to you core subjects. Your core subjects are the five subject you are recommended to pass, before going into your filed of study. For instance, a student who wants to study law, must give more time to Mathematics, English, Literature, Government and CRS/IRS. This will help you pass effectively, at least in those subject.
6. Take note of mistakes students make in WAEC examination and avoid them
More often than not, candidates fail WAEC examination because of simple mistakes they make while writing the examination. It is worthwhile to note that WAEC does not only test you on what you have upstairs (in your brain), they also test your ability to follow simple instructions.
Sometimes, even if you write very well, the little mistakes you made while answering your questions will not allow you to get your full marks for a question. Based on experience, below are some of the mistakes candidates make during WAEC examination:
- Failing to write their name(s) in capital letters.
- Entering a wrong center number in your script.
- Entering a wrong seat number in your script.
- Writing across the margin lines
- Answering a questions with answers that is meant for another question:
There are other common mistakes candidates make, but if you can effectively sidestep the ones listed above, you have gone a long way to reduce your chance of making mistakes during WAEC examination.
To circumvent these mistakes during WAEC examination, you must learn to structure your answers before writing them down in your answer sheet. Doing this will not only help you circumvent mistakes, it will add you more marks because anyone who will mark your script will want to appreciate your structured and nice work.
7. Take WAEC mock examination
To pass WAEC examination with As, you have to participate in a mock WAEC examination. Doing this will help to put you in WAEC examination condition and also reduce your fear for the main examination.
Note that it must not be a formal examination conducted in your school. You can simply take up your past questions and answers, answer questions from a particular year, and after answering the questions, turn to the answer section to check if what you answered was correct.
Most candidates see this as a waste of time, but the truth is that it actually works. It will prepare you for the real examination, and make it absolutely possible to pass WAEC examination in just on sitting.
8. Do not rely on examination malpractice or ”APOR” to pass:
Many writers have promulgated that there is hardly a students in Africa, who want to pass WAEC examination without engaging in examination malpractice. In fact, some candidates believe that it is absolutely impossible to pass WAEC examination without engaging in malpractice but that is not true.
Some years ago, one of my students, asked for APOR to pass her examination. I actually rebuked her and advised her to start reading her books.
To my greatest surprise, her reply before ending the call was that, “it is impossible to pass WAEC examination without APOR thus she getting the leaked questions for the examination “. At that juncture, I discovered one of the reasons why many student still fail WAEC examination.
Please note that you can never be optimistic about passing WAEC examination by relying on examination malpractice or APOR, because you can be caught while doing it. More so, If unfortunately, you are caught engaging in examination malpractice, then your success in the examination has been totally jeopardized.
Based on this, I enjoin you not to rely on APOR or Malpractice. Rely on what you read before the exam. That is the only way your success in the impending WAEC examination will be assured.
9. Ask God for the ability to remember what you read
To pass WAEC examination in just one sitting, you must seek God’s help. Truth be told, you can’t pass WAEC without the help of God. Sometimes, unprecedented things happen during WAEC examination to jeopardize your success in the exam; and if you don’t have God by your side, failing will be very easy.
You must have heard of cases where candidates who finished writing their examination very well, were not able allowed to see their results.
It is not that those students failed to read before the examination. Sometimes, it is just that they didn’t have God by their side. So, to pass WAEC examination in just one sitting, you need God to put you through. Ask God for the ability to remember all what you have read before the examination and go ahead to write your examination.
