Galamsey Economy

Dear Ministry of Foreign Affairs: Why Stop Anas from showing Galamsey Economy?

Dear Ministry of Foreign Affairs,

I am struggling to come to terms with any plausible reasons that would occasion the decision to refuse Anas Aremeyaw Anas the use of the Accra International Conference Center.

It smacks of bad faith on the part of your outfit to inform Anas of this decision two days to the premiering of his documentaries.

For the avoidance of doubt, Anas wrote to AICC to grant him access to showcase the documentary on October 31, 2022.

The following day which was November 1, 2022, you wrote back to him, approving the request on the condition that he made a part payment of GHC19,122.82.

Anas went to pay the full amount of GHC19,122.82 on November 7, 2022, thereby fulfilling the condition precedent for using the Accra International Conference Center.

The documentaries were slated for Monday and Tuesday, November 14 and 15, respectively. Two days to the first date, that’s on the 12th of November, 2022, you wrote to him, telling him you are no longer giving him the place for his documentaries.

Anas, we need not be gifted with knowledge in rocket science, to know, has sent invitations to all those people he would want to be a part of his work.

Now that you have reneged on the agreement at the eleventh hour, how do you propose he goes about this?

If you weren’t sure of hiring the place to him, then you shouldn’t have asked him to make any commitment with the payment of the fee charged.

You are giving the government a bad name. This is unethical. It sends a very wrong signal out there. Some are already bashing President Akufo-Addo, accusing him of being behind this.

Dear Minister of Foreign Affairs, you cannot sit on the fence while Rome is in flames. You cannot allow this decision to stand for any reason. Reverse this last minute decision by AICC.

It is not everything that we can and must defend. This is one of them. Kindly have this decision reversed with immediate effect.
